Putting evidence into practice: an event for students and healthcare professionals
Time: 13:00 - 17:30
Room: Moore room
Summary: Ahead of the Cochrane Colloquium, Cochrane UK is hosting a half-day event in London on Sunday 3rd September 2023, aimed at healthcare professionals and students, from all healthcare disciplines, who want to learn more about putting evidence into practice.
The afternoon will begin with an introduction to evidence-based practice and an interactive session to guide you through critical appraisal of a Cochrane Review. We’ll then move on to look at why some research you come across isn’t always as it seems, specifically on the topic of research integrity. The final session will focus on the implementation of evidence-based practice including how to find the evidence you need to inform your clinical decisions (especially when you are busy), understanding clinical guidelines, and measuring the impact of putting evidence into your practice.
During the breaks, you will also have a chance to learn more about Cochrane and the various ways you can get involved in Cochrane’s work.

That's why we're hosting the 2023 Cochrane Methods Symposium, where you'll have the opportunity to learn from Cochrane experts and industry leaders and connect with like-minded professionals.
This year's Methods Symposium will be split into two 90-minute sessions:
Session 1: Facilitating review and data reuse across the research ecosystem.
Chaired by Joanne McKenzie and Tianjing Li (Cochrane Methods Executive).
Unlock the potential of review and data reuse! In this session, esteemed speakers will shed light on how structured data can be leveraged across the research ecosystem. Gain insights from Anna Lene Seidler (University of Sidney, Australia) on aggregate data standards from trials, Ian Saldanha (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, USA) on systematic review standards, and Per Olav Vandvik (MAGIC, Norway) on clinical practice guidelines. Engage in a panel discussion with Brian Alper as invited speaker (Computable Publishing LLC, USA), exploring collaboration, machine readability, and optimising data flow in trials, systematic reviews, and guidelines.
Session 2: Equity in evidence synthesis.
Chaired by Carl Moons and Su Golder (Cochrane Methods Executive).
Be part of the equity conversation! This session delves into various perspectives on equity in evidence synthesis. Discover how Cochrane Reviews can address equity and social determinants with Meera Viswanathan (University of North Carolina, USA), explore the role of methodological research in promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion considerations with Vivian Welch (Campbell Collaboration, Canada), and understand the impact of algorithmic bias on systematic reviews of AI interventions with Lotty Hooft (Julius Center - UMC Utrecht, The Netherlands).
